Samsung Galaxy Book vs Apple iPad Pro: What to Expect

When it comes to its digital tablets, top technology brands Samsung and Apple still go head-to-head against each other.

The comparison, however, is only based on specs, features and performance as Samsung does not carry its own operating system in its devices (it previously used the Android OS), unlike Apple which has its own iOS.

To start off, both the Samsung Galaxy Book and the iPad Pro are esentially tablets but with an optional keyboard accessory - making them both seem like a hybrid tablet-netbook which also works as a laptop replacement.

Both are available in almost the same size - the Galaxy Book is available at 12 inches while the iPad Pro is slightly bigger at 12.9 inches (both without the keyboard). Between the two, however, the iPad Pro is lighter and it offers a bigger display size with high-intensity pixels, clocking in with 2732 x 2048 at 264 ppi, while the Galaxy Book carries a display size of 2160 x 1440 with 216 ppi.

As for RAM, the iPad Pro is only available at 4GB, while the Galaxy Book gives consumers a different option as it is available in 4GB and 8GB RAM variants.

The iPad Pro, however, has three internal storage variants starting at 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB. The Galaxy Book only has two - the 128GB and 256GB, with the 256GB available for the 8GB RAM variant.

Battery life, however, are almost the same with the iPad Pro guaranteeing up to 10 hours in web use, while the Galaxy Book lasts 10.5 hours. Interestingly enough, the iPad Pro neither supports USB and SD Card expansion for additional storage, but the Galaxy Book supports both.

As for its processor, Samsung's Galaxy Book also seems to win over the iPad Pro as it is powered by an Intel core i5 chip compared to Apple's A9X processor which had been notably lagging behind Intel's clock speeds.

The devices cannot be compared when it comes to pricing as of the moment because Samsung still has to reveal a price range for the Galaxy Book. The iPad Pro, however, is available at $799.

If Samsung could come up with a similar price for its Galaxy Book, then they may have a competitive edge over Apple because it is already bundled with a free stylus and keyboard accessory. As for iPad Pro users, the stylus and keyboard are to be purchased separately at $99 and $169 respectively.
