Samsung Plans to Incorporate 3D Touch on Its Next Flagship, Says Patent

Apple became the pioneer of 3D Touch when it introduced the feature on its latest handsets, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. However, it seems that the Korean tech company, Samsung, does not want to be left out of the ongoing race to be the best phone manufacturer, since it was revealed that Samsung also plans to incorporate 3D Touch on its new smartphones.

According to GSM Arena, Samsung has been playing around with this idea since spring of 2014. The tech giant was revealed to have applied for a patent to the Korean Intellectual Property Office, and the website said that it shows "different software outcomes depending on how hard a user is pressing down the screen."

Tech Times said that by applying this technology, Samsung could eliminate the need to add "on-screen" buttons. The report added that it may now be possible for a single keystroke "to perform different actions." For example, if a user presses a letter on the keyboard, it will automatically bring the lowercase version of it, and if a user presses the letter harder, the uppercase version will pop up.

Since 3D Touch technology is "very hot" right now, it would be wise for Samsung to include the feature to its upcoming phones. Reports say that the new technology is expected to be featured on Samsung's new flagship device, which is the Samsung Galaxy S7.

The new Galaxy S device is rumored to come with either Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 7422, and will have 3 GB RAM, according to iDigital Times. It is also said to come in two size variants, one at 5.2-inch version, and another in 5.8-inch model. The rear camera is also expected to be 20 megapixels

According to Slash Gear, the company will probably make the announcement for the new smartphone in February next year, since the Mobile World Congress also happens in February.
