San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders New Stadium Plan 2015: Proposals Trigger Backlash

The Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers released plans today on a shared stadium to be built in the greater Los Angeles area. The fallout from said announcement is now swirling around not only their home markets, but the internet as well.

The details on how two divisional rivals could share stadium is the talk for NFL fans not only in California but nationwide. If the NFL approves this plan many dominoes will fall and it could change the look of the NFL forever.

The most important comments being made about his come from San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer. It seems very clear that Chargers are tired of waiting for something to get down in their current home markets. Who can really blame them as their stadium situation has gone unsettled for some 14 years, and in that time the San Diego Padres have gotten a brand new state of the art ballpark built and occupied.

"It's now abundantly clear that while we have been working here in San Diego to create a plan for a new stadium, the Chargers have for some time been making their own plans for moving to Los Angeles," Faulconer said. "This would amount to abandoning generations of loyal Chargers fans. Despite this news, we are going to continue our efforts to develop a viable stadium solution."

The Chargers have been applying pressure to the politicians in San Diego all week, and those politicians are now firing back.

Mike Florio weighed in on the plan, saying if the two divisional rivals were to share a stadium that one of the teams would have to change division, kicking off a mini realignment of the NFC and AFC West divisions.

"The current thinking is that the Raiders would be the most likely of the two to leave for the NFC West. The question then becomes which of the NFC West teams would move to the AFC West," he said.
