San Jose Sharks News 2015: Forward Marleau Makes History with 1,000th NHL Point
The San Jose Sharks won against the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-1, last Saturday, but the victory is just one of the highlights of the game. Canadian ice hockey forward Patrick Marleau made history by achieving his 1,000th point in his career after producing two assists in the win.
The man they call "Patty" already has 1,001 points to his name and has played his entire career as a member of the Sharks. Everyone saw this coming, especially with Marleau's impressive strings of performances in the past couple of games.
The veteran professional ice hockey player began his career almost two decades ago when he was picked by the Sharks as the second overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has become the franchise's all-time leader in goals and played more than 1,300 games for them, making him part of the elite group of NHL players to have played in that number of games.

Talking to reporters about his feat, Marleau couldn't help but get impressed by what he has achieved thus far.
"That's really cool, being drafted here and getting the 1,000 points here, there's some significance here in Pittsburgh," he said. "It's something I'll always remember," the veteran player added.
Marleau is actually the 83rd player in the league's history to achieve the feat, but his remarkable career spanning 18 years will always be highlighted by the fact that he stayed with the same franchise that drafted him after all those years. "You never know what it's about until it's done and over with," he said. A lot of teammates are a part of it over the years and it wouldn't happen without them."
Aside from his achievements in the NHL, the 36-year-old is also a veteran of international play, and quite a successful one at that. He already has two gold medals in his collection, winning them for Canada during the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics.
