'Scandal' Season 7 Release Date News: Series to Return Next Month; Olivia to Betray Mellie?

American thriller series "Scandal" returns next month for its final season, and spoilers say viewers are soon going to find out if Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is going to betray Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young), and what lies ahead for Olivia and Fitz Grant (Tony Goldwyn).

According to International Business Times spoilers, Olivia will be on her way to more power, specifically, becoming the most powerful woman in the United States. Although Mellie is currently the president, it had been because of Olivia that she was able to take the seat.

Olivia, in return, was appointed as her Chief of Staff. With this important job, it is likely that she will use the position to open the door to greater power.

The publication also reported that Young revealed in a recent interview that her character, Mellie, will take a while to realize that Olivia could betray her because the Chief of Staff has always been the one she turned to in times of moral dilemma.

As per TV Line's scoop on the upcoming final season of "Scandal," series creator Shona Rhimes explained that fans should remember how complicated Fitz and Olivia's love story is.

He was the former president, and now, Olivia is working for the new president. With her remaining in the White House because of her duties, what will happen to their relationship when Fitz is all the way in Vermont living a low-key life?

As for Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes), she will be facing a challenge in the upcoming season with her company. Considering that Olivia will not be around to help her and also because of the fact that she is pregnant, Quinn will have to rely on her own skills and contacts.

However, Rhimes reassured the fans that Quinn's pregnancy will not change her and make her weak.

"Quinn is going to be the same Quinn we've always known," the series creator said. "Women don't become a whole other person because they are having a baby," she added.

"Scandal" season 7 will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
