Serena Williams News: Tennis Player Responds to Sexist Remarks Made by Indian Wells Director

Veteran tennis superstar Serena Williams gave a piece of her mind regarding the most recent remarks of BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells) director Raymond Moore.

During the eve of Sunday's singles finals, Moore made a controversial statement about female tennis players. According a report by CNN's Ravi Ubha and Matias Grez, Moore sarcastically said he wanted to be someone in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) in his next life, claiming that the women "ride on the coattails of men."

"If I was a lady player, I'd go down every night on my knees and thank God that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born, because they have carried this sport," Moore said. "They really have."

The South African did draw flak because of his comments, and has since apologized for it. The WTA also announced that they would be putting Moore's statements under review, noting how the association "was founded on the principles of equality and empowerment."

But it was not enough. Major players such as Serena Williams responded to Moore's remarks, which were deemed as sexist in nature.

"I don't think any woman should be down on their knees thanking anybody like that," Williams said.

The 34-year old Williams went on to point out that she has been getting huge praises, noting how fans would tell them they do not watch tennis unless they were watching her and her elder sister Venus play.

She also added that both men and women in the sport of tennis have attained their fair share of successes, noting that there should be no comparison between the two.

"I think there are a lot of women out there who are very exciting to watch," Willliams said. "I think there are a lot of men out there who are exciting to watch. I think it definitely goes both ways."

In the said tournament, Williams lost 6-4 to Victoria Azarenka in the women's final.
