Shay Mitchell to Star in ABC Drama by Former 'Pretty Little Liars' Showrunner

"Pretty Little Liars" alum Shay Mitchell will star in an upcoming ABC drama based on one of Sara Shepard's novels, "The Heiresses."

As of now, details behind Mitchell's role are being kept secret. Marlene King, former "Pretty Little Liars" showrunner, will be executive producing the upcoming show, "The Heiresses." She will be joined by former "Pretty Little Liars" producers Gina Girolamo and Leslie Morgenstein from Alloy. King will also pen the script for the project.

The show will be another adaptation of New York Times bestselling author Sara Shepard's novels.

"The Heiresses" follows the story of the Saybrooks, a family blessed with great fortune and loss. An unfortunate fatal accident will divide the once-inseparable diamond-empire. But it is another tragedy that will bring the family back together. The Saybrook heiresses will work together to discover who wants the family dead before one of them becomes the next target.

The upcoming show will be produced by WBTV, Alloy, and Long Lake Media.

Freeform's "Pretty Little Liars" wrapped up earlier this year after a seven-season run. As previously reported, the network is gearing up for a spinoff, titled "The Perfectionists." It will be based on a book by Shepard of the same name.

Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish will star in the spinoff. Although the pair will be reprising their roles as Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal, respectively, the series has nothing to do with "Pretty Little Liars." According to Pieterse, the show simply brings in characters from the hit show.

"The Perfectionists" is going to be another murder mystery. This time, it is set in the town of Beacon Heights, where residents are particular about maintaining a seemingly perfect life.

"The Heiresses" and "Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists" have yet to receive a release date.
