Sibling Trio Plays Refreshing Bluegrass Take on Gospel Hymn 'Higher Ground' (VIDEO)
According to their website, The Purple Hulls is a bluegrass trio of siblings known for "unique harmonies" and "ripping the strings off any instrument they can get their hands on." That got my attention. And in this acoustic performance of the gospel classic "Higher Ground," they deliver with full force.
You may not have heard of the Nashville-based act consisting of "Banjo" Ben Clark, Katy Lou Clark and Penny Lea Clark, but they're not new to the stage by any means. Ben worked with Taylor Swift before signing a record deal with his two sisters. In 2012, the natives of Kilgore, Tex. released their debut gospel collection, "Close to Home," which includes three original songs.
As a bonus, visit "Banjo" Ben Clark's website, where he offers tutorials for learning guitar, mandolin, and, of course, banjo. It blows up every stereotype that comes with these traditional folk/bluegrass instruments in hilarious fashion.
