'SNL' Star Pete Davidson Reveals His Bouts With Borderline Personality Disorder
Pete Davidson of "SNL" fame reveals he is suffering from mental health issues.
Fans of "Saturday Night Live" know 23-year-old Pete Davidson as the lanky guy with a great sense of humor and golden punchlines. Starting with stand-up comedy, making other people happy seemed to be Davidson's goal in life, but now, he reveals a rather serious part of his life. Appearing on Marc Maron's podcast, "WTF," Davidson revealed that he is suffering from borderline personality disorder.
For those who don't know what borderline personality disorder is, it is a kind of mental illness characterized by "a pattern of ongoing instability in moods, behavior, self-image, and functioning."
"I've been a pothead forever," the 23-year-old said. "Around October or September last year, I started having these mental breakdowns where I would, like, freak out and then not remember what happened after. Blind rage," he added.
According to him, he never did any other drugs and decided to enter rehab in the hopes that it would help him get better. While he was there, the comedian was told he might be bipolar, and he was given some prescription medicine.
Afterwards, he says he returned to smoking marijuana all the while taking his medicines. After a period of two months, Davidson revealed to Maron that he just snapped and had a serious mental breakdown, which eventually led him to quit smoking weed. Three months went by, and he wasn't getting any better.
"I found out I have BPD, which is borderline personality disorder... I'm depressed all the time," he says. Davidson also revealed that he has been attending therapy sessions and taking medication, which he says is "working slowly but surely."
Part of the reason for his mental issues, Davidson explains, is the death of his father. According to him, his father was one of those killed in the 9/11 terror attacks. He was seven years old then.
