Sonic Dash Brings Endless Sega Runner to iOS
Sega released its new "Sonic Dash" game for iOS earlier today, which is one of the first endless runners that features the beloved Sonic the Hedgehog.
The game follows up last year's "Sonic Jump," which was quite similar to the hit "Doodle Jump" currently available for iOS and Android.
"Sonic Dash" is being described by some as Sonic's version of "Temple Run." It was developed by Sega's U.K. studio Hardlight.
The gameplay features Sonic literally dashing through terrain and the player is left with the task of helping him to avoid certain obstacles which makes it quite similar to "Temple Run." However, the controls differ a bit from past games as Sonic's movements are swipe-based. In Temple Run the runner can be moved to the right or left by turning and tilting the device, but in Sonic Dash the player must swipe to move to the left or right of the course.
To call it a "Temple Run" clone would be unfair, as it does feature some elements that have made Sonic games in the past great such as collecting rings, jumping and killing enemies, and navigating through 3D landscapes that resemble some of the levels in the Dreamcast classic "Sonic Adventure."
"Sonic Dash" does not feature levels, but the landscape does change the further the player gets in the game. It also focuses on point collecting in the same way that "Temple Run" and "Subway Surfer" do. Rings collected during the run can be used to purchase power-ups such as revive tokens, coin magnets, and distance-skipping head starts. There are also other playable characters in "Sonic Dash" as Tails, Knuckles and Amy are featured in the game.
"Sonic Dash" is currently available in the iOS App Store for $1.99 and should be released for Google Play in the near future.
