Sony to Release an 'PlayStation 4.5' to Cater to 4K Gaming

A new version of Sony's 'Playstation' could be in the works, paving the way for upgradable game consoles.

According to Independent, gamers could soon be getting an improved version of the 'PlayStation 4.' While it will not release as an entirely new device, the upcoming 'PlayStation 4.5' is expected to be capable of a 4K resolution. This means that the resolution will be improved up to four times the regular display.

Rumors state that the device will improve the overall experience for PlayStation Virtual Reality games. It will also bring the game console into competition with several PC games as well as the HTG Vive and Oculus Rift.

Sony is not the only one expected to bring the new feature to their game consoles. It was reported that Microsoft could also feature a 4K resolution on the Xbox. In an interview with Polygon, the head of Xbox Phil Spencer explained, "We can effectively feel a little bit more like what we see on PC, where I can still go back and run my old Quake and Doom games, but then I can also see the best 4K games coming out."

He also stated that they are working towards continuous innovation for their game consoles. He added, "I want to make sure that people see that what we are doing enables us to be more committed to what consoles are about than we've ever been and innovate more consistently than we ever have. That's the key for me."

While there has yet to be any official announcement from both companies regarding their exact plans for the future of the game consoles, there has been speculation that there will soon be a shift in how game consoles are designed, since they will have to cater to the new trends in virtual reality games.
