'Speechless' Season 2 Spoilers: The DiMeos Make Some Changes in Their Lives

When "Speechless" returns for its second season this month, the DiMeo family are going to try to make some changes in their lives.

According to the synopsis for season 2 episode 1, the DiMeo matriarch Maya (Minnie Driver) will decide that they will no longer make JJ's (Micah Fowler) disability an excuse to let their lives just slip through the cracks.

While JJ is at summer camp, the family, including Jimmy (John Ross Bowie) and Dylan (Kyla Kenedy), will attempt to undergo self-improvements. However, Ray (Mason Cook), being the complacent young boy that he is, sits back as he watches the other family members fail.

However, when JJ comes home, the family discovers something important. Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough) finds a love letter in his disable brother's luggage, in which a girl named Alexa, whom he met at summer camp, expresses her desire to give JJ his first kiss.

Because of this, the DiMeos will forget about their self-improvement projects and hit the road to find this particular girl.

Also, according to TV Guide's scoop, the DiMeo family will also try to find a better school for JJ. However, they will eventually realize that his current school is the best one for him. So, for the first time in a long time, they are going to stay where they are for a while, which could pave the way for them to actually become a part of the community.

Other things that fans can look forward to in the upcoming season of the show is getting to know Maya outside of her family life, especially apart from being a mother to a child with a disability.

Driver, the actress, teased about this in her interview with Los Angeles Times back in April.

"We haven't really explored who Maya's family is," she said. "We've known some of Jimmy's family. I think there's a lot to be mined out of that, like what she was on the path to do before she found herself pregnant and then gave birth to child who has a severe disability," she went on to say.

"Speechless" season 2 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 8:30 p.m. EDT on ABC.
