'Spider-Man 3' for 2018, 'Sinister Six' for 2016: Death of Spidey and Return of Gwen Stacy?
The third installment to the new "Amazing Spider-Man" film franchise starring Andrew Garfield has been pushed to a 2018 release but a spin-off title called the "Sinister Six" has taken its place in the 2016 slot. It is still unclear on whether Andrew Garfield will star in the spin-off as his contract only allows him to appear in three Spider-Man films.
There are a plethora of rumors surrounding both films like Emma Stone's return to the film, despite her character's (Gwen Stacy) death in the second film. Also, there are rumors that Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man will make an appearance in the "Sinister Six" but will die, making way for a new Spider-Man in the third film.
Regarding the return of Emma Stone, it has already been made clear by Director Marc Webb that the character is gone for good. The complications surrounding the actress' return owes itself to multiple versions of the Spider-Man universe, where she could return as a clone, as Spider-Woman, as the villain Carnage, or most probably as herself only in flashbacks and in Peter's dreams.
Even the actress is uncertain whether she will return to the franchise as any of the aforementioned personas.
"Sinister Six" on the other hand will be featuring Spider-Man's greatest rivals, where they will be ganging up together in a bid to get rid of the web-slinging hero.
Plot details are scarce but if the film is to follow the comic books, Spider-Man will die after being shot by Kraven. He perishes in the hands of Aunt May but not before defeating all six of the villains.
