Spirit West Coast 2005 Offers A Double-Portion Of Christian Music

For the second year in a row, premier Christian music festival Spirit West Coast is offering a double whammy of spirit-filled music, fun, and fellowship to the nation’s western region, with the first half, Del Mar 2005, already in the record books.

Over 50,000 fans came together at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in North San Diego County, with some leaving with much more than their fill of today’s top Christian music as nearly 300 attendees (doubled from last year) publicly dedicated themselves to God during the three day festival, which took place from May 27-29.

“The leadership team thought that this year was a very positive event,” said promoter Jon Robberson regarding Del Mar 2005. “We know that, although 300 were public with their confession of faith, there were even many more who were privately moved by the Spirit, and so for us all things were very positive about this year’s Del Mar festival.”

On the musical side Del Mar 2005 were some of today’s top selling acts in CCM including Audio Adrenaline, Third Day, and perennial favorites, the newsboys, who, after performing last year’s farewell concert at Del Mar, were voted as this year’s fan favorites, according to an extensive booking survey of Del Mar 2004 attendees and Spirit West Coast e-mail listings.

Newsboys’ keyboardist Jeff Frankenstein cited the welcoming atmosphere of the festival as one of the reasons why the band has made it a tradition to come out to Spirit West Coast:

“The Spirit West Coast festivals definitely take the prize for best weather and atmosphere at a festival. We had a great show in Del Mar,” he said. “The staff and promoters are probably the most hospitable and accommodating of any we come across throughout the year. Jon Roberson, the promoter of both festivals, is in the business for the right reasons and it shows.”

The newsboys, who headlined the second night of the Del Mar festival, will also be topping the bill at this year’s Spirit West Coast Monterey festival, which will take place July 28-30 at the Laguna Seca Recreation Area in Monterey, CA.

Aside from the newsboys, the Monterey festival will share many of the same exciting features as the Del Mar festival, including the brand new Tooth and Nail Stage, which will such hard music acts as Norma Jean, Emery, Haste the Day, Falling Up, Spoken, Project 86 and others, and a series of worship seminars presented by worshiptogether.com.

Other general features of Spirit West Coast include action inflatable games, sports and recreation activities, a skateboard park, youth leader forums, the artist autograph center and ministry for all ages and phases of life – youth, singles, children and couples.

Teachers/speakers for Monterey 2005 include renowned author and speaker Josh McDowell and pastors Erwin McManus (from Los Angeles) and Mike Pilavachi from England.

“I think we’ve got a great program and we trust the Lord will do great things in people’s lives,” said Robberson about SWC Monterey.
