'Star Trek: Discovery' Lead Sonequa Martin-Green Comments on What New Gig May Mean for Her 'The Walking Dead' Role

Since Sonequa Martin-Green bagged the lead role in the new "Star Trek: Discovery" series for CBS All Access, every "The Walking Dead" fans just had a gut feeling that she may be the next one biting the dust in the AMC show. The actress plays Sasha in the TV adaptation of the Robert Kirkman series and plays a regular role in Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) squad. With two huge properties on the small screen, she may eventually have to give up one and chances are, it would be the post-apocalyptic hit.

Entertainment Weekly recently ran a story dissecting the possible chances that Martin-Green can keep both roles at the same time. Former "The Walking Dead" castmates, Jon Bernthal who played Shane, and David Morrissey who played The Governor, booked other jobs and were both subsequently killed in the show. In the case of Corey Hawkins, who has an ongoing lead role on "24: Legacy," maintains his role as Heath but with significantly diminished appearances. This, however, could feel terribly weird for a pivotal Alexandrian Sasha unless folks behind the series spin a narrative that will explain her disappearance.

Presumably, even before Martin-Green sent out for her audition for "Star Trek" Discovery," she has already huddled with execs in AMC for a rundown of possibilities. But given this age of media, everything has to be kept with a tight lid, so the actress would not give out any specifics on how the situation will be handled.

"Well, I can't say anything," Martin-Green candidly admits regarding the predicament. But she adds an interesting bit that may be hinting at a huge arc for Sasha, saying: "I can say that the story is as impactful and powerful and dynamic as it always has been, and there's nothing to worry about where that's concerned."

Production for "Star Trek: Discovery" starts this week in Toronto, Canada and is expected to last until September. It is important to note however that no official release date for the CBS All Access show has been announced. It's supposed May availability was eventually taken back with folks at CBS explaining that they do not want to rush the process. The current season of "The Walking Dead," on the other hand, is still on hiatus until it premieres new episodes on Feb. 12, 9 p.m. ET.
