'Star Wars Battlefront' Coming Exclusively To PlayStation VR

"Star Wars Battlefront," the Star Wars-themed action shooter video game by Electronics Arts, will soon be made available for PlayStation VR. A partnership between Sony, Lucasfilm, and EA DICE has made the "Star Wars Battlefront" VR experience possible.

"Star Wars Battlefront experience coming only to PlayStation VR -- more news to come in the months ahead," Sony announced via its official PlayStation Twitter account on Tuesday, March 15.

According to Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House, Sony teamed up with Lucasfilm and EA to develop the "Star Wars Battlefront" virtual reality version exclusively for the PlayStation VR.

"We at PlayStation are thrilled to be partnering with our friends EA and LucasFilm to create something all new for PlayStation VR," House said in a GDC 2016 presentation (via GamesRadar). "This will be a 'Star Wars Battlefront' gaming experience like nothing else; coming only to PlayStation VR from the talented team at DICE, where players can transport themselves to a galaxy far far way."

No other details, screenshots, or footage of the "Star Wars Battlefront" VR experience were revealed.

Ahead of the "Star Wars Battlefront" announcement, Sony unveiled its PlayStation VR during the 2016 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The device is expected to ship in October and will be available for $399.

"Star Wars Battlefront" is just one of at least 50 games that are expected to be made available for PlayStation VR by the time it hits store shelves. DICE is just one of at least 230 game developers currently working on VR projects for PlayStation, GameSpot has learned.

"Star Wars Battlefront" was launched in November 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. According to EA, several sequels of the game are already in development.

According to IGN, Lucasfilm is also working with ILMxLAB on another Star Wars VR experience. The VR game, which is being made for HTC Vive, is called "Trials on Tatooine" and stars Luke Skywalker's Jedi apprentice.
