'Star Wars Battlefront' News: 'The Force Awakens' DLC Is Not Happening

Fans of the "Star Wars" franchise who are at the same time gamers who started playing the "Star Wars Battlefront" game got a piece of disappointing news about their video game recently. Publisher Electronic Arts and developer DICE revealed that they do not have plans to bring "The Force Awakens" to the video game anytime soon. According to a report in IGN, an EA spokesperson said that new content will focus on the original trilogy at the moment.

The announcement was made via Twitter, when a spokesperson answered one query from a fan about "The Force Awakens" content, saying in a tweet, "Our team is focusing on the original trilogy for this release of Star Wars Battlefront."

The numerous fan queries make sense especially after the box office success of the film "The Force Awakens." The game recently received the DLC "The Battle of Jakku" which was set 29 years before the time of "The Force Awakens" but according to another report in PC Gamer, this is probably the closest connection fans can get between the game and the film. This particular DLC includes two new maps as well a new gameplay mode.

EA and DICE promised early on that they are bringing new content to the game soon. They have announced that they plan to add new weapons, vehicles and playable characters (heroes and villains alike). Paid content will be released in early 2016, which is part of the season pass for the game. It is said to include more than 20 new pieces of galactic technology, four heroes and villains, four new game modes and 16 more maps.

With EA and DICE indicating in their tweet about focusing on the trilogy for "this release" of the game, the PC Gamer report speculates that this may mean the "The Force Awakens" may come to the game in its future releases.

"Star Wars Battlefront" was released in North America on November 17, 2015 for PC, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
