Star Wars Episode 7 News Update: Cast Rumors - Could Plot Include Darth Maul Actor? (TRAILER VIDEO)
With Star Wars Episode 7 news and cast rumors continuing to swirl, the actor who played Darth Maul in "The Phantom Menace" has come out to publicly beg to be included in the latest installment of the franchise.
Martial artist Ray Park has said that he would do anything to be in Star Wars again, and has even said he would love to be included anywhere even if it meant he wouldn't be Darth Maul in the film.
The actor, whose red-faced character who takes on Jedi's in The Phantom Menace with a double-bladed lightsaber, is unlikely to return as Darth Maul though, as he was in fact killed off by Obi-Wan in that film.
However, his disappointing exit from the franchise has not dulled his excitement at the upcoming Episode 7, and the actor is particularly excited that J.J. Abrams will be in the director's chair.
"I think it's great that J.J. is doing it," he explained in an interview with Flicks and the City. "I've known for many years that he's a big 'Star Wars' fan. What he's done for 'Star Trek' is phenomenal. I think he's the right man for the job and I'm ecstatic that 'Star Wars' is coming back."
He added, "When I was a kid, I used to go: 'Why did they film 4, 5 and 6? When are they gonna do 6, 7 and 8? 1, 2 and 3?' And now they're actually doing it."
Obviously knowing that a return for his character is unlikely, Park has said that he would even be willing to take on an entirely different role for the film, and would just be excited to be part of the production.
"I've said that I would play anything to do with 'Star Wars'," he said. "But really, deep down, I would love to come back as Darth Maul - that's what I want to do. I would go crazy, go mental, lock myself in a cabin, you know. Do the whole 'method' for two or three months, spear-fishing and stuff… just to play the character again."
