'Star Wars Episode 8' Plot Rumors: Sequel Will Focus On Finn, Rey And Poe

Fresh from the box office success of Episode 7, "The Force Awakens," the folks at Disney Studios are already hard at work on the film's sequel, otherwise known as Episode 8. With Disney keeping mum about the sequel's plot, rumors have started circulating as what the next film will be about. According to a report in Cinema Blend, the script for the next film is undergoing a final rewrite before the film can start production work in time for a 2017 release.

The report cited a source who is a movie reporter at The Wrap, who said that the reason for the rewrite was to focus on the stories of the new leads introduced in "The Force Awakens," namely Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).  According to the reporter, instead of introducing two new female characters in the upcoming film, these roles now need to be substantially reduced so that more time can be spent on the stories of the previous film's leads.

The Cinema Blend report said that the rewrite was made in order to make sure that fans will get to know Rey, Finn and Poe more during this trilogy of films.

Another report in MoviePilot confirmed that every single cast member of "The Force Awakens" will be returning for Episode 8, even the one character who was killed in the film. This was announced by Kathleen Kennedy, one of the film's producers. The report speculated that Han Solo's return may possibly be as "a vision" or "a hologram."

Among the rumored plot details mentioned in the report included a deeper dive into the story behind Jakku village elder Lor San Tekka (Max Von Sydow) and how he came to know the Skywalkers and the Solos and maybe even how to was able to track down Luke.

Still another rumor has to do with one of the lead characters, Poe Dameron, who, according to the report, was supposed to have died in the film. His death is still possible and it may happen in Episode 8, but given that little is known of this character, he may not find his end yet.

"Star Wars Episode 8" will be directed by Rian Johnson and is set to bow in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
