'Star Wars: Episode VII' news, cast, spoilers: Merchandise gives insight to Finn's and Rey's backstories
Despite being one of the most followed franchises in the world of science-fiction movies, spoilers and plots have been incredibly hush-hush for "Star Wars: Episode VII." Many die-hard fans of the movie hold on to occasional quotes from director J.J. Abrams, as well as from the trailers.
However, last Sept. 4, fans all over the world rejoiced because not just a line of extensive Episode VII was released but the merchandise also gave elaborate insight to the character roots of its two starring characters, Finn, played by John Boyega and Rey, palyed by Daisy Ridley. Many were delighted to see theories confirmed, as well as new details given away, surprisingly, on profiles that came with a costume packaging.
According to iDigital Times, some description written on Finn's costume packaging was, "Sometimes, heroes come from the unlikeliest of places. The Galactic Empire has been dead for decades, but evil never really dies. With villains rising to take the Empire's place, heroes must rise to oppose them. After becoming stranded by himself in the deserts of Jakku, and meeting up with a girl named Rey, a Stormtrooper named Finn has joined the side of the Resistance. He began his adventure as a part of the New Order, but now he's one of the few people that can stop them. With a new look, Finn is ready for a new mission." Many had already assumed before from what he was wearing in the trailers that Finn was a Stormtrooper turned ally, yet these details have finally confirmed his change of heart.
As for Rey's costume description, it seems to go further by describing a particular scene that may be seen in the movie. A part of the description says, "After invading the Starkiller Base, one member of the Resistance has split from her group and found herself in a massive room full of First Order soldiers. Completely surrounded by Stormtroopers with blasters and Knights of Ren with lightsabers, she seems to be totally outnumbered. Unfortunately for her enemies, though, they've made a big mistake: it's not about the strength of the weapon, but the strength of the warrior that wields it." This might be the ultimate confirmation that Rey will be a powerful character with the force.
It is still unknown whether fans will see the history and the description written on the big screen. After only having released two trailers, fans are only getting little clues for now until "Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens" hits theaters on Dec. 18.
