'Star Wars: Episode VIII' News, Spoilers: Adam Driver on How 'Episode VIII' Director Rian Johnson Differs From J.J. Abrams

Actor Adam Driver, who took on the role of the villainous Kylo Ren in the box office hit "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," says that he "can't wait" to start working on "Episode VIII," the next film in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy.

The actor recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly during the special screening of his new sci-fi/drama film "Midnight Special." Driver expressed his excitement over filming the next "Star Wars" film and reported that there is less anxiety over making "Episode VIII" than there was making "Episode VII." The actor also praised the script for the sequel and teased that the film will still find the Resistance and the First Order battling it out in the galaxy far, far away.

Though it can't be easy following in the footsteps of director J.J. Abrams, who helmed the phenomenal "Episode VII," "Looper" director Rian Johnson, who is directing "Episode VIII," has found a champion in Driver.

Speaking to EW, the actor compared the two filmmakers, saying, "Their temperaments are different."

"I feel like there was so many moving pieces in the first one – just trying to solve it and set the vocabulary for what it was," he added. "There's a lot of that anxiety is gone, because people have developed a language. I think it's more of a testament to Rian coming into something very established and making it [his own]. I can't wait to get on set, just because he's so unassuming and intelligent and approachable. The script they've come up with is really great."

Meanwhile, Driver's co-star John Boyega, who played the role of Finn in "The Force Awakens," recently dropped an interesting hint about "Episode VIII." Speaking from the UK Gala Screening of "Secrets of Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Boyega called actress Kelly Marie Tran, who was recently announced as part of "Episode VIII," the film's "new lead."

This bit of news has brought about much speculation about Tran's role in the upcoming sequel.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is set for release Dec. 15, 2017.
