'Stardew Valley' to Roll Out on the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 5

"Stardew Valley" is coming to the Nintendo Switch this October.

On Monday, it was revealed that the 2016 old-school inspired game "Stardew Valley" will be available for purchase on a brand new platform: the Nintendo Switch. The game was first released back in February 2016 on the Microsoft Windows and was eventually released on the Linus, OS X, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Now, it is finally coming to the Switch, and developer Eric Barone couldn't be any happier.

"I'm very happy to see Stardew come to a Nintendo console... I grew up on Nintendo, after all! This will not only be the first time Stardew Valley appears on a Nintendo platform, but also the first time Stardew will be on a portable system," Barone said on the game's official website.

Barone, who also goes by the pseudonym ConcernedApe, made sure to thank Sickhead Games for their efforts in developing "Stardew Valley" for the Switch port. He also thanked the game's publisher Chucklefish for making everything possible.

For those who are unfamiliar with "Stardew Valley," it is basically an indie role-playing game centered on simulated farming. Players get to control a character who sets out to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life and live on a farm inherited from his/her grandfather located in a fictional Stardew Valley. What's interesting about the game is that it's entirely pixelated and was heavily inspired by the "Harvest Moon" game series. But what "Harvest Moon" lacked, Barone made sure to fill.

"Stardew Valley" was developed by Eric Barone all on his own, and it was four years in the making. Eventually, publishers Chucklefish would discover Barone's labor of love and would take a chance on the game. "Stardew Valley" would go on to become a massive success, by independent game standards, selling over one million units in the first two months.

"Stardew Valley" was nominated for Best Indie Game 2016. It will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 5.
