Steve Jobs Funeral Takes Place Privately as World Mourns 'Great American Innovator'
The untimely passing of the iconic former Apple CEO Steve Jobs has caused sadness and mourning across the world, and Friday saw the Apple founder laid to rest in a private funeral at an undisclosed location apparently to evade protests by the controversial Westboro Baptist Church that holds the iconic entrepreneur responsible for gay marriage.
The location of the funeral was not disclosed perhaps due to the possibility of protests by widely discredited Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, which had announced that it was planning to picket the funeral.
“THANK GOD! Steve Jobs is dead! Westboro will picket his funeral!” said the WBC Blogs which is linked to the church’s website. The church also sent messages via Twitter for iPhone.
Earlier this week U.S. President Barack Obama issued a statement on the passing of Steve Jobs saying, “Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.”
Obama also said that the world has lost a “visionary” and added the there could be not greater tribute to Job’s life than the world learning of his passing on a “device he invented.”
On his Twitter account the President tweeted, “Rest in peace, Steve Jobs. From all of us at #Obama2012, thank you for the work you make possible every day-including ours.”
Jobs was mourned by many others including Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Eric Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google.
Gates said in a statement, “Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work.”
Gates added, “For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor.”
Zuckerberg thanked the visionary for being a great friend and mentor and Schmidt said in a statement that he “defined a generation of style and technology that’s unlikely to be matched again.”
Jobs was born in San Francisco and was adopted by an Armenian family. He never actually graduated from college but founded Apple in 1976 with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne.
