Still No Takers for $25,000 'Jesus Toast'

A man from Windham, Maine drew the attention of people following weird news when he tried to auction a piece of butter toast supposedly bearing an imprint of Jesus' face. George Mailey said he made the toasted bread a month ago while missing loved ones who passed away.

When he took his creation from the toaster, he was surprised to see Jesus' face on the bread staring at him. "It was an answer to a lot of questions I had," Maley described his epiphany to WCHS6. "Even if it was just a brief image, it's still a sign and points in the right direction," he added.

His son Andrew was initially skeptical when told about it but was convinced after seeing the butter toast with his own two eyes. "I thought [dad] was lying. I thought it was completely fake, and then he showed me and my mind was blown," the boy said.

Maley is preserving the toast in the freezer and has posted it on eBay with a starting bid of $25,000. The e-commerce site describes the item, shown in three photos, as "in new condition." The listing may have generated traffic from curious netizens, but no bids or inquiries have been made as of March 8.

Maley plans to use the proceeds to send his two kids to school. He may have been inspired by a woman in Florida who successfully sold a 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich bearing the holy depiction of the Virgin Mary in 2004. It was snapped up for $28,000 by Golden Palace online casino.

Diana Duyser said she made the sandwich in 1994 and saw the face of a woman after taking a bite on it. She believed it to be miraculous as it did not thaw or spoil after 10 years. "I would like all people to know that I do believe that this is the Virgin Mary Mother of God," she told NBC that time.
