'Supergirl' News: Pilot Episode Will Also Be Shown Online

"Supergirl" pilot will air later at 7:30 p.m. on CBS, and the network will also show the episode on its website, for those who will miss it.

Superman's cousin, Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist), will finally get her own TV show, and the new series will show Kara, who has kept her powers a secret for 12 Earth years, embracing her superhuman abilities. Season 1 will show Kara's journey to becoming "Supergirl," as well as her backstory. "There's always a bit of mystery around her origins and around what her capacities are," Greg Berlanti, the show's executive producer, said, according to Hollywood Take.

In the first season of "Supergirl," Kara will have to deal with different villains, as well as the government's Department of Extra-normal Operations, or DEO. The website described DEO as a "secret organization that is searching for aliens on Earth," and it is where Kara's sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), works.

Kara will also have to maintain her "normal" life, where she works for Cat Grant (Callista Flockhart) as a personal assistant, or servant. CBS will also add flavor to Kara's life by inserting a love triangle, in the form of photographer James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) and IT technician Winslow "Winn" Schott (Jeremy Jordan).

Although it was not reported that Superman will visit Kara in National City, many fans hope to see Kara's cousin drop by. "He will be a factor in her life but you won't see him exactly on screen; he'll be in the background but he does play a part in her evolution," Geoff Johns, another executive producer of "Supergirl," said.

The pilot was directed by Glen Winters, and was written by Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg, and Greg Berlanti. The episode will be broadcast tonight, but will be available to watch for free on the CBS website.
