'Supergirl' Spoilers: EP Talks J'onn's Reunion With Father
When J'onn (David Harewood) reunites with his father M'yrnn J'onzz (Carl Lumbly) in the upcoming season of "Supergirl," where he will come to realize how much Earth has changed him.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teased that J'onn's reunion with his father will make him realize how much Earth has humanized him.
"J'onn has always felt like an alien. He spent 300 years on Earth and he's always felt different, and other, and felt people were afraid of him, and has always had to hide who he really was," Kreisberg told the publication.
According to Kreisberg, the irony is that J'onn gets reconnected with his Martian heritage but it will only prove how much Earth-like he has become. J'onn will come to realize that he is not as alien as he once thought he was. But how he will respond to this realization is the mystery.
"If we're reconnecting with his Martian heritage, how important is that to him?" Kreisberg teased.
Everyone will be subjected to this theme of grappling for humanity. As expected, Kara a.k.a. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) will cast her humanity aside when she decides that her being the Girl of Steel should be the first priority. Her sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), though human, will struggle with what it takes to lead a full life with her partner Maggie (Floriana Lima).
Even next season's big bad will question her origins. The new villain, Reign (Odette Annable), initially will have no idea that she was a bio-engineered experiment on Krypton.
Next season, viewers will see Reign's journey to becoming the big bad. It will be about how she realizes her heritage and how she responds to that. Given that she ends up as the Worldkiller, she probably will be a little upset about it and eventually embrace it fully.
"Supergirl" returns to The CW on Monday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. ET.
