Surface Phone Rumors: Next Microsoft Mobile Device to Pack Andromeda OS, to Arrive Mid-2018
While the smartphone market has Samsung and Apple battling for customers, it may be soon a three-way fight as rumors claim that the highly anticipated and talked-about Surface Phone will finally arrive next year.
There is no denying that the Surface Phone is one of the most talked-about devices, despite the fact that Microsoft has yet to officially announce its existence. While the supposed Microsoft mobile device has been rumored to arrive several times already, and such rumors only turning out to be false alarms, the latest rumors claim that the Surface Phone is finally arriving in the middle part of 2018.
According to unconfirmed reports, the Surface Phone is already being internally tested with the newly developed Microsoft OS, the Andromeda, which is said to be a mobile-focused operating system. Nonetheless, the Surface Phone will not be the only phone to pack the alleged new Microsoft mobile OS as, supposedly, certain brands of smartphones, such as Lenovo, Dell, and HP, are also planning to launch their own line of mobile devices to pack the said OS.
It is interesting to note that despite Microsoft being mum on the existence of the Surface Phone, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed in an interview last year that the Redmond-based company is, indeed, working on a new mobile device that will not look like the smartphones known in the market today.
"We will continue to be in the phone market not as defined by today's market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device," Nadella told the Australian Financial Review in November last year.
Whether the next smartphone of Microsoft will be called the Surface Phone or not, rumors claiming that it will be a foldable device that can be used as a phone and a tablet have gotten louder for months already, thanks to several patent leaks that Microsoft supposedly applied for and have been awarded.
After all, it was Nadella himself who suggested that the next Microsoft phone will not look like the conventional smartphones of today.
Will the Surface Phone really arrive next year? Will it really be a foldable device?
Microsoft fans can only speculate for now.
