Teen Sacrifices Own Life Saving Girlfriend From Oncoming Train
Teenagers on their way to a school dance decided to walk on train tracks instead of the road, and Mateus Moore ended up saving his girlfriend's life by pushing her out of the way of an oncoming train. Moore is being hailed as a hero for his actions, and a community is mourning the loss of a life cut short.
Mickayla Friend and Moore had been dating for some time and decided to walk along the train tracks on their way to a dance. One witness says that the couple seemed to hear the engineer's warning horn at the same time and, upon seeing how close the train was, Moore made the decision to sacrifice himself for Friend.
"They would have both been underneath that train if he didn't push her out of the way at the last second," Sean Stark told KCRA. "He pushed her, and he went under [the train] and she hit the corner of the train," he added.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene, but Friend was taken to the local hospital for serious injuries.
"You can't imagine getting the worst call in your life, knowing that you just dropped your sister off to go to a dance that was supposed to be a special, amazing night for her and her boyfriend of a year. And then you get a call that says he's deceased and she's in critical condition," Friend's sister Alithya told KCRA. "It's her first boyfriend and her first love. And she just got it taken away from her in an instant."
The accident took place just a short distance away from a ballpark where a little league game was being played. Parents worried that the young children would see the gruesome scene and worked to protect them.
"It wasn't one of our kids, just get back," Marysville Little League Secretary Diane Washburn told parents. "Once they see that, that can't be unseen," she told the Appeal-Democrat.
