'Teen Wolf' Season 6 Cast News, Release Date & Spoilers: MTV Series Star Tyler Posey Apologizes for Fake Coming-Out Video on Snapchat

"Teen Wolf" star Tyler Posey was recently embroiled in controversy after appearing to come out as gay on Snapchat. The 24-year-old lead actor of the hit MTV series took to Twitter to clarify that he is not gay and apologized for his Snapchat video that was interpreted as his coming out.

Gay Baiting?

Posey caused a social media stir last Friday after sharing a Snapchat video, showing him in front of a sign labelled "Gay St." in New York City. "I am this and this is me. I've never felt more alive," Posey said on the video before yelling, "I'm gay!"

The Snapchat video was immediately perceived by some as Posey's coming out while others were left wondering as to whether the actor was serious about it or was merely joking. Criticisms started to pour after he did clarify his first remark, and instead posted another bizarre video claiming that he is a "lamp."

"Ah man, am I happy! I've never felt more like me than I do now!" Posey said on his second Snapchat video, according to the Daily Mail.

Some fans alleged Posey of mocking the LGBT community. Moreover, other social media users accused him of gay baiting to heighten the anticipation of "Teen Wolf" Season 6, the final installment of the MTV series.

Posey is Not Gay

After the backlash, Posey aired his side through a series of Twitter posts. "I am a big proponent of love over hate, and standing together during divisive times," the actor stated. He clarified that he is not gay and explained that his controversial Snapchat video, which was perceived as his coming out, was intended to reflect his support to the LGBT community.

"I am truly sorry to the people I've offended or lessened how big coming out is. I just want to spread love in this world," Posey concluded his explanation.

'Teen Wolf' Season 6

For several years, "Teen Wolf" has been criticized for its gay-baiting antics. "The supernatural MTV thriller has dangled the possibility of full-fledged same-sex pairings, only to shuffle gay characters off the series and never deliver on its minor representational wins," Cole Delbyck of The Huffington Post wrote.

It was announced during the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con that "Teen Wolf" Season 6 will be the conclusion of the MTV cult hit. The 20-episode final season will start airing in November.

Aside from Posey (Scott McCall), stars who are confirmed to return to "Teen Wolf" Season 6 include Holland Roden (Lydia Martin), Dylan Sprayberry (Liam Dunbar), Cody Christian (Theo Raeken) and Khylin Rhambo (Mason Hewitt).
