Thandie Newton Pregnant at Age 40

Thandie Newton and her husband Ol Parker are expecting their third child, the couple announced over the weekend.

The British-born actress is best known for her roles in films such as "Crash," "The Pursuit of Happyness," and "Mission: Impossible II," among many others.

Married since 1998, Newton and her producer husband are already parents to two daughters; eight-and-a-half-year-old Nico and 13-month-old Ripley.

After stepping out for the premiere of her latest film "Half of a Yellow Sun," Newton and Parker confirmed that a third child was on the way, according to People.com.

"Half of a Yellow Sun" is set in Nigeria and also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor. The upcoming drama is scheduled for release in the U.S. sometime later this month.

Meanwhile, Newton is the latest celebrity mom to expand her family despite being over the age of 40.

Earlier this month, reports indicated that Gwen Stefani, 43, is expecting a third child with husband Gavin Rossdale.

"It's very new and they just found out," said a source close to the musical couple, according to Us magazine. "They're excited!"

Furthermore, Halle Berry is expecting a child with her new husband Olivier Martinez. The 47-year-old admitted that the pregnancy came as a surprise.

"This has been the biggest surprise of my life, to tell you the truth," said the actress speaking to CNN in April. "Thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it's been a big surprise and the most wonderful."

Pregnancies that occur later in life are becoming more common. However, studies indicate health risks to moms and babies.

Firstly, fertility begins to wane during a woman's 30's, and it may be difficult to conceive naturally, according to Women's Health Magazine.

Also, older pregnant women have a higher chance of suffering a miscarriage as well as an increased chance of developing gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, and other health risks.

Furthermore, older mothers are more likely to conceive twins or triplets, and there are delivery differences such as prolonged labor.
