'The Avengers' And 'The Walking Dead' Postpone Filming Due To Hurricane Irma
Film and TV productions in the state were postponed after the governor expanded Sunday's state of emergency to include all 159 counties. Gov. Nathan Deal made the decision due to expected heavy rains, strong wind and potential flooding in the wake of the hurricane.
"The Avengers" and "The Walking Dead" are just two of the many films and TV shows that postponed filming in the state of Georgia due to Hurricane Irma continuing its path of destruction in the southern United States.
AMC has postponed production for "The Walking Dead" in preparation for the storm's arrival. The same goes for CW's "The Originals" which is also filming in the Peach State.
This is the second time this year that "The Walking Dead" halted production for its eighth season. The first was following the death of stuntman John Bernecker, who fell 22 feet from a balcony onto a concrete floor and went on for five days before the series resumed production.
The filming of a couple of Marvel films was also affected by the storm's onslaught. "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp," which are currently filming at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, will postpone filming until further notice.
Hurricane Irma recently made landfall in Florida over the weekend leaving behind a trail of devastation. The outlying islands of the Florida Keys were severely affected with a quarter of homes destroyed after being pummeled by gale force winds of up to 120 mph. Search and rescue teams are currently moving through the worst affected areas with emergency supplies of food and water.
The offices of the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists in Atlanta and Miami were also closed for two days due to the storm. However, due to Florida recently cutting off its entertainment tax incentives program, no shows were affected by the storm wreaking havoc in the state.
