'The Crown' Season 2 News: Royal Drama Teases Scandal, Betrayal and Revolution in Latest Trailer

The queen prepares for a revolution in the latest trailer for "The Crown" season 2.

Netflix has released the theatrical trailer for the royal drama's upcoming season. The new clip offers a glimpse at Queen Elizabeth (Claire Foy) as she deals with royalty, love and the changing society of Great Britain after the war.

"To do nothing is often the best course of action — but history was not made by those who did nothing," said the queen.

Elizabeth must also face scandals coming out of the Buckingham Palace and making their way onto the tabloids. The queen must stand her ground as enemies try to destabilize her position and threaten the monarchy.

Reports point out that season 2 will explore the mounting discord between Elizabeth and her spouse, Philip (Matt Smith), as well. A few scenes in the trailer teases Philip's infidelity, along with a confrontation between him and Elizabeth.

"This restlessness of yours has to stop," a tired Elizabeth warns her husband during a private moment. "It has to be a thing of the past ... One more scandal, one more national embarrassment and it all will be over."

Philip will not be the only person Elizabeth has to be concerned about. Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby) embarks on a different adventure of her own, as she sets out to find happiness after her heartbreaking arc last season.

"I know who I am — a woman for the modern age — free to live, to love, and free to break away," Margaret declares.

As previously announced, season 2 will be the main cast's final performance on the show. Season 3 will usher in a new batch of actors to play the main characters as the series jumps ahead in time. Foy, who played Elizabeth in seasons 1 and 2, will be replaced by English actress Olivia Colman.

The second season of "The Crown" premieres Friday, Dec. 8, on Netflix.
