'The Flash' season 2: New villain confirmed played by WWE superstar
The CW just recently released a trailer for the second season of "The Flash," and though it was a mere 11 seconds, fans can already get a feel of the vibe that the show wants to imply — the new season will surely try to be bigger than before.
At the first and fifth second in the promo, we get to see a glimpse of a new villain, Atom Smasher. Atom Smasher is known for his power of growth and super-strength. He first appeared in the DC Comics in 1983. However, there might be quite a disparity between the comics and the series. Originally, Atom Smasher is a metahuman who got his power from his grandfather, Cyclotron. However, in the show, it has already been mentioned in season 1 that a Mr. Al Rothstein had been one of the casualties in the particle accelerator accident, implying further that it is where he got his power.
According to Screenrant, Atom Smasher will be played by WWE superstar Edge and that he would be the first of many villains that viewers can expect. Following last season's pattern, a lot of them would also be revenge-seeking metahumans.
Another new element that will be seen is a Flash signal, which would resemble a lot like the Batman's bat signal. Its fellow DC superhero show "Arrow" has been seen taking inspiration at times from the famous Batman lore, and it seems that The Flash is now following suit.
What a lot of observant fans hope to see more this season is a closure in and an explanation for last season's finale. As everyone remembers, it ended with Eddie killing himself to ultimately remove Dr. Wells' existence. However, viewers say that this should have definitely caused a significant effect on time, as Dr. Wells' removal from history supposedly impacted time events in a very significant way and should result to changes such as Barry's mom being alive, his dad being out of prison, and even Barry never becoming The Flash. It doesn't seem like the writers have shown any signs of explaining it further, and this causes worries that they will just bury these questions by introducing a series of new villains.
Fans may just have to wait until the new season starts on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. on The CW, before getting answers.
