'The Incredibles 2' news, cast, spoilers: Rumored earlier release date was a misunderstanding

When a sequel for "The Incredibles" was initially announced, it immediately made fans very excited. The idea that the superhero family is again on its way to the big screen was certainly welcomed with open arms. However, when it was said that it won't be released anytime soon, the excitement was quickly replaced by disappointment.

Yet fans should not feel down for long, as it seems that everything is still in development stages. According to Collider, writer and director Brad Bird recently gave a status update about the development of the sequel. He goes, "I have the story arc. I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it. I've got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we're all having a good time with it." With that, it's good to know that albeit the delay, the wheels are indeed turning for the movie's second installment.

When asked about the release date of the movie, hoping that there would be good news, Bird replied, "In terms of the release date, we were originally — Incredibles was supposed to happen after Cars, and our wheels just happened to click a little earlier so they moved us up. Release dates are a little fluid when you're making films so far in advance. Some films are tougher to come together and tough nuts to crack, and other ones comes together a little more quickly, and so I'm just going to work as fast as I can work well with a relatively small team because I like small teams better until you've got everything firmly figured out."

Bird's statement instantly made the impression that the movie may after all be lined up for an earlier release date than 2018. However, representatives for Bird immediately cleared any misunderstanding quick enough. They said that Bird was referring to what happened to the release dates of the first Incredibles and the first Cars and not the upcoming ones.

For now, 2016 and 2017 already seem packed with Pixar films, hence the 2018 expected release date is most likely possible. Movie-goers will have their fill of animated films as "The Good Dinosaur," "Finding Dory," "Toy Story 4," and "Coco" are all set to show before The Incredibles 2.
