'The Voice' Season 9 Latest News: Two Coaches Used Their Knockouts Steal; More Than One Frontrunner Were Sent Home
Last night began the Knockouts round of "The Voice," where coaches put up two of their contestants on stage. The singers will have to perform a song they've chosen, and the coaches will have to choose one performer to move on to the next round. The coaches were joined by Rihanna, as the head mentor, and she helped all coaches in giving advice to the contestants. A lot of frontrunners were not chosen by their coaches, but two were saved from going home after two coaches used their Knockouts Steal.
Team Adam was first to perform, and the "Maroon 5" singer chose the twins, Andi and Alex, and Blaine Mitchell. The twins sang "Stupid Boy" by Keith Urban, and the rocker chose James Bay's "Hold Back the River." Andi and Alex finally sang solo; however, one of the twins was flat, which made Adam chose Blaine with his strong performance.
Braiden Sunshine and Ellie Lawrence were put on stage next by Gwen. Braiden chose "Feelin' Good" by Michael Bublé, and Rihanna was amazed by his performance. Ellie, who is a crowd favorite, sang "Cool for the Summer" by Demi Lovato, and faltered. She was sent home since the song choice did not match her voice, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Next was Team Blake, and the coach chose Blind Joe against Barrett Baber. The two were evenly matched since both are experienced singers. Blind Joe went home since he didn't beat Barrett's performance of Brown Band's "Colder Weather."
Amy Vachal and Madi Davis from Team Pharrell were next, and Madi emerged as the winner in the Knockouts round with her unexpected performance of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You." However, even if Amy was not able to win this Knockout with Madi, she still had two coaches fighting for her when both Adam and Blake pressed the red button to use their Knockouts Steal. Amy ultimately chose Adam as her new coach.
Team Blake is back with his two new singers from his Battles Steal. Ivonne Acero, who was originally from Team Pharrell, sang "Part of Me" by Katy Perry, and Chance Pena, from Team Adam, sang Imagine Dragon's "Demons." Rihanna was blown away by Ivonne, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, it was her best performance yet in the competition. Blake, who was also impressed with Ivonne's growth, chose her to move on to the Live Shows.
The last fight of the evening was between Jordan Smith and Viktor Kiraly from Team Adam. Jordan sang Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain," while Viktor chose Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You." Adam was having difficulties again, but went for Jordan. Viktor did not have to say goodbye, yet, since Gwen immediately uses her Knockouts Steal on him.
