'The Walking Dead' Season 8 Spoilers: More Character Deaths Next Season, Showrunner Reveals
When "The Walking Dead," the TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman's comic book series returns for its eighth season, it is going to get more bloody. Showrunner Scott Gimple even promises more character deaths.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gimple teased the upcoming season.
"There are some big deaths this season," said Gimple. "I think they will catch people by surprise."
In celebration of the 100th episode of "The Walking Dead," the team behind the hit series decided to crank the intensity up a notch. For the uninitiated, the previous installment ended with so much bloodshed, as Alexandria and the rest of the communities that Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Saviors had usurped have finally banded together to face their common enemy.
Everyone was bummed out when Glenn (Steven Yeun), one of the show's original characters, was killed off last season, leaving his wife Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and their unborn child alone in the zombie-infested world. In addition, Sasha (Sonequa Martin) sacrificed herself towards the end of the episode, to protect her people.
And according to Austin Amelio, who portrays Dwight in the series, last season was only the tip of the iceberg.
"It's a f —ing in-your-face action-packed IV of adrenaline," Amelio told EW. "Season 7 was the ramp-up and now this is the blastoff. The stuff that's happening is insane!"
In a sneak peek into the upcoming season, it was revealed that Dwight will play an essential role in the war between Alexandria and the Saviors. Dwight will be a double agent, feeding the Alexandrians info on taking down Negan.
On the other hand, Melissa McBride, who plays Carol, assures fans of the series that season 8 will take everyone back to the old show, the familiar swagger of rising to the occasion, of fighting back no matter the odds.
"The Walking Dead" season 8 premiere, the 100th episode of the show, will air on Sunday, Oct. 22.
