'The Winds Of Winter' Release Date, News & Update: Expectations About George R. R. Martin's Sixth Book Mount As Author Keeps Mum
"The Winds of Winter," the upcoming sixth book of the epic fantasy series "A Song of Ice and Fire" in which the hit HBO show "Game of Thrones" is based upon, has been anticipated for over half a decade now. Speculations about the incoming sixth book continue to surface as its author, George R. R. Martin, keeps mum about the progress of the much-awaited novel.
'The Winds of Winter' Release Date Won't Be Announced at the WorldCon 2016
Martin wrote on his online journal that he will be joining editors, writers and fans at the 74th World Science Convention in Kansas City, Missouri on Aug. 17-21. He mentioned that he will take part in various activities including book signing, reading and some other stuff he did not specify. The 67-year-old author did not say anything about "The Winds of Winter," however, fans immediately speculated that he will finally give an idea or even announce the sixth book's release date at the WorldCon 2016.
"I feel a certain hint of an oncoming announcement at [the] said event… not anticipating anything, but one can hope right?" a fan with the username olliethehound commented on Martin's live blog. However, the author immediately responded, "Oh, please. Stop with that nonsense."
'The Winds of Winter' Release Date Remains A Mystery
As of press time, the release date of "The Winds of Winter" remained a big question as Martin refused to talk about it. It can be recalled that Martin announced early this year that the sixth book is not yet finished and it will not be published ahead of the sixth season of the hit show "Game of Thrones."
The much-talked HBO series aired and ended even without a novel to base from. Martin, however, made it clear that the TV show will not spoil the highly anticipated novel.
Last May, Martin teased his fans by sharing a chapter from the unfinished "The Winds of Winter" on his website. He also clarified that sharing the chapter does not mean he is done with the delayed novel.
More Speculations About the Delay of 'The Winds of Winter'
A group of Reddit users speculated that Martin might be working on "The Winds of Winter" and the seventh book "A Dream of Spring" at the same time, which is why it took him so long to confirm the release date. Others said that Martin might be revising the sixth book all over again after the sixth season of the "Game of Thrones" spoiled it.
