The Winds of Winter Release Date, News & Updates: George R. R. Martin Off to Worldcon 2016 with No Announcement About Sixth 'A Song of Ice And Fire' Novel; Author's Events Schedule

George R. R. Martin is in Kansas City, Missouri for the 74th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) 2016, which will run from Aug. 17-21. The 67-year-old novelist will hold his own lineup of activities at the event, however, fans should not expect that he will be dropping some good news about "The Winds of Winter" ( TWOW), the highly anticipated sixth book of "A Song of Ice and Fire" (ASOIAF) series.

At Worldcon 2016

Martin wrote on his live blog that he will be at the Worldcon 2016 starting Aug. 18 to attend to his scheduled lineup of activities and enjoy the rest of the event. He said that he will have autograph signing, reading and panel appearances.

The bestselling author is also set to attend the Hugo Awards, the annual ceremony organized by the World Science Fiction Society to recognize the best science fiction or fantasy pieces and achievements. He will also be throwing his 40th Hugo Losers Party, a private gathering he started in 1976 after he lost in two Hugo nominations.

In addition, Martin appealed to his fans to refrain from asking him to pose for photographs or sign books during chance encounters outside his slated activities. He explained that he allotted enough time for those things and just like everyone else, he also wanted to enjoy the event.

No Update About TWOW

It was reported in July that fans of the ASOIAF book series were crossing their fingers that Martin will finally drop the release date of TWOW at the Worldcon. Unfortunately, the recent blog post of the author did not hint anything about a special announcement coming at the event.

Moreover, Martin has already shut down the rumors at the comment section of his blog post last month. He told one fan to stop making the "nonsense" speculation that he will make an announcement about TWOW at the Worldcon.

Full Events Schedule

Fans who want to see Martin at the Worldcon 2016 may attend his autograph signing on Aug. 18 at 3:00 p.m. at the Bartle Hall Convention Center (Room 3501H).
