'The Winds of Winter' Release Date, Plot News: Book to Finally Hit the Shelves Next Year?

While the release date for "The Winds Of Winter" has not been set in stone, there is now reason to believe that the book may hit the shelves soon.

"I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018... and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream," Martin reportedly wrote on his blog recently.

He also wrote that he is "months away" from finishing the book. And if this is true, fans might be able to get their hands of "The Winds of Winter" early next year.

There is only one season left for "Game Of Thrones," and Martin has yet to publish two more books. While the show may have seemed to deviate from the books, Martin reassured that the remaining books in the series will still "parallel" the show in some ways.

"Winds will be different in some ways, but will parallel the show in others," the author said about the book and the television series, according to The Sun.

On the other hand, a theory on AV Club says that Martin might have already finished writing the book, but has been keeping it a secret from everyone. This stemmed from the author setting his LiveJournal mood to "pleased" some time ago, making the fans speculate that the very reason could be that he has already wrapped up the highly anticipated installment of his "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel series.

Also, with all the new projects he will be taking on, such as executive producing another HBO series and working on new "Game of Thrones" spin-offs, fans believe that he could not have time for these if he has not yet finished "The Winds of Winter."

These are all just speculation for now, so fans are encouraged to wait for official announcements from the author himself.

As previously reported, Martin is taking his time working on the book, admitting that while it had always taken him several years to finish a single book, his age could have had something to do with the slower writing process.
