'Thor: Ragnarok' Early Reviews, Latest News: Installment Could Be the Funniest Marvel Film Since 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
"Thor: Ragnarok" is looking to be Marvel's funniest movie since "Guardians of the Galaxy."
The reviews for the upcoming "Thor: Ragnarok" are in, and it seems that Marvel has done exceptional work with the newest installment of the "Thor" film franchise. The film currently has a 98 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, far surpassing the previous "Thor" films. Already, "Thor: Ragnarok" is being compared to another hit Marvel film, "Guardians of the Galaxy."
"With tongue firmly in cheek, this latest outing for the thunder god plays more to the giddy Guardians of the Galaxy crowd than to those who prefer their superheroes to be grim and gritty," Alonso Duralde of The Wrap says.
Directed by Taika Waititi, "Thor: Ragnarok" will follow Chris Hemsworth's character as the prince of Asgard trapped and imprisoned on the planet of Sakaar while his long-lost sister, Hel the goddess of death (Cate Blanchett), tries to take over their kingdom. The film will see Thor reunite with Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, who has taken on the appearance of their great father Odin. Not only that, "Thor: Ragnarok" will also see the titular character go head-to-head with fellow Avenger, The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
The film is already being hailed by critics from USA Today and the BBC as the best film from the "Thor" franchise. Critics praised the film's departure from the darker-themed "Thor: Dark World" and embracing a lighter and more comical side.
The film's exceptional cinematography and design were also recognized but along with that, Chris Hemsworth's portrayal of the mighty Thor was warmly accepted. Hemsworth finally gets the "chance to find the comic groove beneath the title character's beefcake godliness," Sheri Linden of The Hollywood Reporter says. "He does it expertly, and the self-mocking humor is all the more welcome given Thor's essential blandness," she added.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is coming to cinemas this Nov. 3.
