'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan' Spoilers, Release Date: Amazon Series to Be Origin Story

Amazon Prime has released the teaser trailer for its upcoming series, "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan," and New York Comic Con attendees were treated to a seven-minute clip of the new show.

The eight-episode series stars John Krasinski, who is best known for playing Jim Halpert on "The Office." Krasinski plays CIA agent Jack Ryan, but the series will be an origin story of sorts for the character.

"This is an early version of Jack Ryan," showrunner Carlton Cuse said at the NYCC panel. "He's only worked at the CIA for four years. He's a really successful analyst, but in our story, he gets his first experience in the field, and we get to see how that works out for him."

This first experience is apparent in the teaser trailer, which shows Jack being reluctant to go out in the field. He reasons that he is a desk agent, only writing reports, but his boss, James Greer (Wendell Pierce) orders him to get on the plane.

It is also clear that Greer does have the same high-level position yet as the character in Tom Clancy's novels. Jack is also not married to Dr. Cathy Mueller (Abbie Cornish), as she is shown first meeting him in the teaser trailer.

Cuse also revealed during the panel that the show would be "delving into terrorism and fundamentalist Islam," but that does not translate to the "demonization of Islamic culture."

"We tried on this show to not just have a bad guy who is a terrorist, but a variety of Muslim characters across the spectrum, and some very heroic characters," Cuse said.

Krasinski's character certainly differs from the lovable Jim of Dunder Mifflin, but this is not the first time he has taken on the role of an action star. Last year, he played former U.S. Navy SEAL Jack Silva in "13 Hours."

"Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" will hit Amazon Prime in 2018. No specific release date has been announced.
