PJ Williams Arrested News, Rumors: Top NFL Draft Prospect Arrested for DUI
It seems like every year there is a story about a highly touted football prospect messing up just weeks before the NFL draft. It is hard to say how much a DUI arrest affects draft status, because it is measured differently by every front office.
The only real truth here is an arrest in the weeks leading up to the draft certainly affect a player's draft status, and that of course affects their pocket book throughout the life of their rookie NFL contract.
PJ Williams, a highly regarded defensive back prospect from Florida State, has been arrested for DUI. The arrest was in Leon County, Florida where the FSU campus is located.
This is the second incident that could be affecting Williams on draft day.
"It's not the first time Williams has been involved in a traffic stop that could be cause for alarm for NFL clubs considering him with a high draft choice," NFL.com reported.
"He was also cited with tickets after a traffic accident in November, although the case has drawn far more attention from NFL teams than a typical accident would. The New York Times wrote a scathing investigative report on the case, suggesting that police should have charged Williams with hit-and-run because he fled the scene of an accident on foot."
At six-foot-even and 196 lbs., Williams is the ideal size for a NFL corner. His 40 time was somewhat underwhelming but not every team puts a ton of stock in that metric. He seems ideal for a bump and run corner, and was recently rated as the 35th top prospect for the 2015 draft. That would make him a marginal first rounder, but after two traffic incidents a team in the second or third round may be willing to take a chance on him.
