UFC 197 News: UFC Fighter Weighs In On Dos Anjos-McGregor Fight; Brazilian Responds To Irishman's Traitor Comments
A fellow fighter of UFC featherweight champion and lightweight title contender Conor McGregor gave his take on the upcoming UFC 197 main event bout between "The Notorious" and champion Rafael dos Anjos.
In a report by MMA Fighting, 155-pound fighter Ross Pearson did agree that the fight between dos Anjos and McGregor is the next big money fight, but he also cautioned the Irishman about how different it is to jump up a weight class.
"He's done big things at 45," Pearson said, according to the report. "But at 55, it all gets squashed. It's a different world."
As of late, a few fighters have seemingly accepted the fact that McGregor does hold a certain amount of control over the UFC and the divisions he is competing at. After defeating José Aldo within mere 13 seconds during their bout at UFC 194, McGregor demanded a title shot at lightweight, which he was immediately granted.
Pearson, however, disagrees, as he believes mixed martial arts is an entirely different game, where he will not be able to freely choose who he wants to fight, unlike how Floyd Mayweather Jr. was able to do in boxing.
"There's too many ways to win, and too many ways to lose, and there's too many good guys," he said. "So if that's what his plan is, I don't think it's going to work."
Meanwhile, lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos has responded to the "traitor to Brazil" statements thrown at him by his challenger, McGregor. Dos Anjos, who now trains full-time in the United States under renowned coach Rafael Cordeiro at Kings MMA in California, was branded as an "American Gringo" by McGregor in the latter's most recent Facebook post.
The Brazilian champion, in turn, calmly responded by first defending himself and his fellow countrymen living in the United States.
"He's going to try to do his best to try to mess with my head," Dos Anjos said in another MMA Fighting report. "I don't hate him, but the Brazilians do. Brazil is on my side."
