UFC Competitor Beats Attempted Mugger
The tables were turned on an attempted mugger in the Southwest side of Chicago yesterday when he tried to rob a mixed martial artist and Ultimate Fighting Championship Competitor.
According to The Chicago Tribune, Anthony Miranda, 24, attempted to rob and carjack the 33-year-old UFC Fighter and the tables were instantly turned.
The fighter wishes to remain anonymous, but he told police that Miranda approached his car near Kenneth Avenue and 55th Street. He requested a light and when Justin told him he did not have a light, Miranda pulled out a gun, and ordered him to get out of the car and leave all his belongings inside.
The two men began to struggle and predictably, the professional fighter got the better of Miranda. The end of the struggle left Miranda left with a badly bruised face and a bullet in his ankle that occurred when the gun went off accidentally.
Justin said he looked at the man facing him, pistol pointing at his chest, and was certain he was about to be shot.
“I wasn’t scared because I’m trained,” Justin explained to The Chicago Tribune. He then demonstrated for a reporter the swift, maneuver that disabled the attempted mugger.
“The round went off,” Justin continued. “I put him down to the ground. He was fighting. He didn’t want to give up.”
At the same time, said Justin, “He was begging me to let him go. He said he has a baby.”
The martial artist was able to restrain Miranda until the police arrived. Miranda was escorted to the hospital and he is currently being held on bail of $350,000. He is a repeat offender for similar crimes and was last released from prison in March 2010.
