'Under the Dome' Season 2 Spoilers: 'New Mysteries' and Faith vs. Science Explored in Season Premiere
"Under the Dome" returns to CBS tonight with its second season with fans anxious to see what is in store for residents of Chester's Mill.
The drama follows townspeople who are trapped under a giant dome that is supposed to serve as protection from an otherworldly force. While it seems like most of the town is trapped for good, this is a chance for one character to make their way outside the dome, according to spoilers online this week.
"This is the search to get out," executive producer Neal Baer told TVGuide. "This is the season of new mysteries that unfold and one of those new mysteries will be if there is a way out."
Moreover, season two will address why the dome is there – aside from simply providing protection.
"We deal with that throughout the whole season, asking why is it here? What is it for? That's the journey that our characters are going on," Baer said before ensuring that the outside world also plays a role in season two.
In a new thread, "Under the Dome" will explore an argument between science and faith when a new character, a high school science teacher named Rebecca (Karla Crome), butts heads with the Monarch Julia (Rachelle Lefevre).
"This season is about faith vs. science and it's illustrated through some of the trials that the inhabitants of Chester's Mill face: a plague of pretty desperate proportions, acid rain and dust storms and things like that," Baer promised.
"Under the Dome" returns to CBS on Monday at 10 p.m. EST. The premiere episode is entitled "Heads Will Roll." The synopsis is as follows: "Season 2 begins with Big Jim deciding Barbie's fate. Meanwhile, the Dome presents a new threat when it becomes magnetized; and Julia seeks the help of a stranger to save the life of a mysterious girl who may hold clues to the Dome's origin."
