USA vs Ghana Live Stream: Watch World Cup 2014 Soccer Online (ESPN TV Schedule)
USA vs Ghana will see the United States get their World Cup 2014 campaign underway on Monday night in Brazil. This will be a case of third time lucky for Jurgen Klinsmann's men after Team USA crashed to defeats against Ghana in the past two World Cups.
Today's game has a scheduled start time of 6 p.m. ET and can be watched on TV on the ESPN network or online through live stream (details below).
Reports have confirmed that talks of the two past defeats for the USA against Ghana – four and eight years ago respectively – have been banned in the preparations to today's game. Klinsmann and his players are confident that the team this year is hugely different to the ones that suffered at the hands of Ghana in the past two World Cups that they do not want to let the past have any influence on them as they approach today's game.
For every team in the World Cup, it is no secret that with just three guaranteed games to make it out of the group stages, getting at least a point on the board in the first game is a must. Losing the opener puts a team in the position where they must win their remaining two games to have the best chance of advancing to the knock out stages.
However, that has never been more the case here, as Group G also consists of football powerhouses Germany and Portugal.
That means the United States cannot afford a third straight loss to Ghana today, and some might even say that they must win this opening game – as that would still leave them having to likely defeat at least one of Portugal or Germany to progress.
A draw today would mean even if Team USA did manage to stun one of the two big teams in the group, they would still potentially be stuck on four points, which is rarely enough to grab a top two spot.
Klinsmann and his team will know this, and they will be entering Monday night's clash as a must-win match up to give them realistic room for their results against Germany and Portugal.
"It's pretty much like a knockout game," USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann has admitted ahead of the game.
"Statistically, the chances of advancing go way up now if you're able to get a point or three from the first game," midfielder Michael Bradley said, according to AP. "And so we've certainly made no secret of the fact that all the focus at this point is about Ghana, and making sure that we do everything we can, so that on June 16, we step on the field and are ready to leave it all out there, knowing that a good result puts us in a really good spot."
