ABC Radio Networks veteran named as Radio Executive of the Year

The National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME) has named Willie Mae McIver their Radio Executive of the Year.

The prestigious honor was awarded to McIver, National Program Director for ABC Radio Networks’ 24-hour Gospel music format Rejoice! Musical Soul Food, during a ceremony on Aug. 19 as part of the NABFEME 2005 International Women’s Leadership Summit held in Chicago from Aug. 17-21.

“Willie Mae McIver has been a driving force in Gospel radio programming, and an inspiration to us all during her many years at ABC Radio Networks,” said Darryl Brown, Executive Vice President and General Manager of ABC Radio Networks. “We are delighted to see her career contributions recognized by the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment.”

“This award means a lot to me,” says McIver, whose previous accolades include induction into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame last year. “Its always good to be recognized by your peers. Sometimes you can be your own worst critic -- females especially can be their own worst critic, so to be recognized in this way means a lot.”

“I’m blessed to have another feather in my cap,” she continues. “I give God all the thanks.”

McIver began her career with ABC as the creator, producer, and host of the radio show “Gospel Inspirations,” which was the first live satellite gospel program in the nation. She has been Director of the nationally syndicated show Rejoice! Musical Soul Food for 14 years.

“Rejoice! Musical Soul Food is a business, but it’s a ministry first,” says McIver. “It’s a tool that’s hopefully leading souls to Christ on a daily basis. I work really hard and go beyond the call of duty because it is a ministry-it’s a ministry that God has entrusted in me to show who He is.”
