A Georgia woman who claimed to be selling children's Bibles door-to-door was actually the front for a group of home invaders.

According to police, after the woman successfully convinced a Forsyth County resident to open the front door, she and several men forced their way into the house on Tuesday afternoon.

There the suspects attempted an armed robbery, Deputy Doug Rainwater of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"When the woman opened the door, the female that was selling the Bibles came in with several other suspects, we believe three black males, and at that point, they threatened her," Karleen Chalker, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office told AccessNorthGa.

It is unclear whether the suspects took anything from the home, and they escaped before authorities arrived.

While authorities are still seeking information, they reported that the female suspect is believed to be white, with shoulder-length blond hair and to be 5-feet-2-inches tall. Her accomplices were described as black and wearing hoodies.

Authorities do not have records of similar incidents in the region.

"We believe that this is an isolated incident. We believe this particular residence was targeted," said Chalker.

While their numbers are fewer than they were in decades past, Bible salesmen have still managed to periodically fascinate mainstream culture. "Salesman," a 1968 documentary followed four Bible salesmen trying to make ends meet by selling Bibles.

In 1998, Julianne Moore starred in a Saturday Night Live sketch about a "shirtless" Bible Salesman; and in 2008, Owen Edgerton's novel, "The Bible Salesman," traced the experiences of a 20-year-old would-be businessman.

The Christian Post contacted the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office for additional updates but did not receive a response by press time.
