WWE 2016 Rumors and News: Bill Goldberg Makes ESPN Appearance on SportsCenter; Will He Return?
Bill Goldberg, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, had been a gift that keeps on giving—or teasing—over the past months. The former WCW and WWE champion is an enigma to fans of late, as he alternates between hyping and shooting down a possible return to the latter company.
Goldberg had been promoting WWE 2K17, whose cover athlete is Brock Lesnar. Their conflict is being highlighted by the new video game title, as Goldberg had also agreed to be a playable character for the first time in the WWE 2K series.
Latest reports do not really clear out things, but they have done nothing to nix the notion of Goldberg gracing the mat once more.
Goldberg on ESPN
While the WWE Universe had been demanding Goldberg in recent WWE pay-per-views, the wrestling legend is already 49 years old. He had said he keeps himself in shape through muay thai training but he made the age factor a highlight of his latest interview.
Goldberg appeared on ESPN SportsCenter, speaking to Jonathan Coachman during the latter's Off the Rope segment. When asked about his plans to return to in-ring competition, the veteran worried mostly about his age. At 49, he said, he risks ruining his legacy as the dominant Goldberg character. Nevertheless, Goldberg expressed his desire to enter the ring again to show his wife, kids and the new generation what he can do.
He also addressed rumors of a match versus Brock Lesnar. With the way things are heating up between the two, at least while promoting WWE 2K17, Lesnar is the most logical opponent for Goldberg should he decide to return. The match is rumored to have been scheduled for Survivor Series in November.
Goldberg said he did not owe Lesnar a rematch, the man he defeated in WrestleMania XX prior to leaving the company. However, he acknowledges that it the best possible match he can get.
Dave Meltzer of F4W Online and Jim Ross both confirmed that Goldberg's return was a "done deal," at worst pitting him and WWE in "a very serious discussion." Thus, a TV comeback might be in the works soon. However, Goldberg said he has yet to talk to Vince McMahon since his departure, and did not confirm anything himself.
To end the interview, Goldberg was asked when he would be prepared to return to the ring. To this, he asked for until the end of the year to decide his fate, first needing to talk to his family about it. He did say if anyone could do it, it would be him.
