WWE 2016 Rumors: Goldberg Return Finally a Done Deal? Details and What to Expect

By now, at the rate this story is going, it's official: Bill Goldberg is the greatest tease in WWE history. The former WWE and WCW champion had been making rumors fly as he continues to drop bombs on a possible return to the mat, and fans had accepted the idea wholeheartedly.

During SummerSlam and, more recently, Clash of Champions, the stadiums were engulfed in Goldberg chants, and even the phenomenon himself noticed and apologized. Needless to say, a Goldberg return would satisfy any hardcore WWE fan and the news that he may have already come to terms with the company are guaranteed to send them into a frenzy.

The last people heard of Goldberg was his supposed early return at Clash of Champions last month. The 49-year-old legend signed up for an interview on Eric Bischoff's podcast at Indianapolis, the same city where the PPV took place on the same date. However, the meeting reportedly fell out, and Goldberg, albeit flattered by the fans' clamor, was nowhere to be seen.

A recent report, however, seemed to have given new life to whole thing. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio broke the news: Goldberg and WWE may have already sealed the deal, and TV return might be in the works soon. At worst, WCW's indestructible force and the McMahon Empire are at a "very strong discussion stage".

This gives the whole Goldberg return picture a major push. It had been rumored for months that Goldberg would make a comeback to the company, teasing a rivalry with Brock Lesnar on several occasions. The veteran bruiser had also made it clear that he had mended ties with the business, allowing himself to be a playable character in the WWE 2K17 video game.

Barely over a month ago, an insider source revealed that the "wheels are in motion" in terms of the former superstars return to the ring. Aside from Lesnar, among the possible opponents he would face would be the Undertaker and Seth Rollins, whom he both called out in recent press encounters.

Goldberg had a brief 1-year run with the company in 2003, defeating the Rock and winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H. He last faced Brock Lesnar in WrestleMania XX, his last match with the company. The match ended in disappointing fashion as fans booed both stars for leaving the company, finishing with Stone Cold delivering the Stunner on both men.
